Altitude Sickness

While travelling to Elko I was unable to sleep and eat as I normally do…is this due to the altitude change? Can simply taking aspirin during my stay alleviate this discomfort? I will be staying for a week this time, and would like to enjoy it. Any feedback would help! Thanks, Canadian traveller needing sleep and appetite :)
