taveling to myvattn

Hi,
Me and my daughter are planing to visist the Myvattn area durin the 3-4 of August. We were planing to rent a car in Akyreri, go to Myvattn and then stay somewere close. However dependent on avaiable trips we could also go from Akureyri for a day. What would you recomend? Is it possible to go from Akyreri over the day with a organized trip. If so is it then nessecary to book the trip in advance? I would very much appreciate some assistance in this matter.
