transit passenger visa

Hi there! I am turkish national and I will travel to USA with a J1 visa. I found a flight with a london connection to JFK, NY. But the flight from Istanbul to London lands at Standsted (STN)Airport and the connection flight departs from Heathrow (LHR). As a transit passenger what sort of visa should I get and is it easy and fast to get?? I need your urgent opinion and recommendations since I need to buy the ticket ASAP. Thank you
