Wayanad Destinations

Wayanad is one of the best tourist place in kerala situated at an elevation of 2100 to 7000 feet above sea level. Mayakshetra evolved into Mayanad and finally to Wayanad. The word wayanad is a combination of Vayal (paddy field) and Naad (land), making it ‘The Land of Paddy Fields’.

The major tourist attraction’s in wayanad is Banasura. The Banasura Sagar Dam built up of mud is India’s largest earthen dam and Asia’s second largest is built in 1979. Banasura Hill, Edakkal Caves, The Glass Temple, Pazhassi Tomb, Pookote Lake, Meenmutty Waterfalls, Kuruva Island, Soochipara,Thirunelli Temple, Kanthanpara Waterfall, Chembra Peak, Pakshipathalam, Begur Wildlife Sanctuary, Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary and Muthanga Wildlife Reserve are some of the options.  you can also visit the tribal hamlets at the foot of the Banasura hill which has been in existence for centuries.

Banasura Hill Resort, Asia’s largest ‘earth’ resort and India’s first nestled on 35 acres of eco friendly farm stacked with pepper, coffee and tea plantations and ponds. The 20,000 sq ft two-storey structure in the Banasura hills is made entirely out of mud. Eugene Pandala, one of India’s best known architects who works with traditional building technologies has designed this mud haven.
